Winner of the tournament in 2019, Alexander Zverev (ATP 22) will be one of the headliners of the Gonet Geneva Open which starts this Saturday. The Olympic Champion received the second wild card issued by the organizers. The first was awarded to Grigor Dimitrov (ATP 33).

World No. 2 last year after his semifinal match against Rafael Nadal at the French Open, during which he suffered a serious ankle injury, Alexander Zverev is on his way to returning to his best level. He returns to the Parc des Eaux-Vives in the hope of doing as well as he did four years ago. He won the tournament after a thrilling final against Chilean Nicolas Jarry after having saved two match points.

Alexander Zverev, 26, has won 19 tournaments, including the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and the Masters twice in 2018 and 2021. He was also a finalist at the US Open in 2020.

In addition, the wild card promised to a Swiss player for the qualifying draw went to Jerome Kym (ATP 401). The 20-year-old from Aargau, who was held back by a knee injury for a long time, won his first ITF Tour title in Trento, Italy in early April.

Grigor Dimitrov (ATP 33) returns to the Gonet Geneva Open, that will start this Saturday, May 20. Present at the Parc des Eaux-Vives in 2019 and 2021, the Bulgarian has received a wild card from the organizers.

Winner of the Masters in 2017 to rise to third place in the ATP rankings and semi-finalist three times in Grand Slam tournaments, Grigor Dimitrov, at 31 years old, remains one of the most appreciated players on the circuit. With his superb one-handed backhand, he has a game that can only delight purists.

Beaten in his last two tournaments by Carlos Alcaraz in Madrid and by Novak Djokovic in Rome, two matches in which he really put up a good fight, Grigor Dimitrov arrives in Geneva with real ambitions. He has the weapons to get involved in the fight for the title.

With the arrival of Grigor Dimitrov, the field of the Gonet Geneva Open, whose two headliners are two-time defending champion Casper Ruud (ATP 4) and Taylor Fritz (ATP 9), now includes 12 of the top 50 players in the ATP rankings. We are waiting for the arrival of other top players by Friday.

The eighth edition of the Gonet Geneva Open will not be lacking in appeal. The list of nineteen players who have been admitted directly into the main draw of this ATP 250 tournament, which will take place from May 20 to 27 at the Parc des Eaux-Vives, is indeed full of promise. It brings together ten of the fifty best players in the world.

Two top-ten players, two-time defending champion Casper Ruud (ATP 4) and Taylor Fritz (ATP 10), the leader of a strong American contingent, are the first headliners of the tournament. Others will follow. With the three wild cards at their disposal, the organizers will be able to attract, as in recent years, other players of great value.

The tournament cut-off point is 69th place. It is interesting to note that seven players on this list have won an ATP tournament this year: Tallon Griekspoor in Pune, Yibing Wu in Dallas, Taylor Fritz in Delray Beach, Nicolas Jarry in Santiago, Roberto Carballes Baena in Marrakech, Casper Ruud in Estoril and Dusan Lajovic in Banja Luka.

Swiss No. 1 Marc-Andrea Hüsler does not enter the draw directly because of his ranking (ATP 76). He could however benefit from possible withdrawals to enter the draw.

Gonet Bank and Casper Ruud loyal to the Gonet Geneva Open

Gonet Bank and Casper Ruud loyal to the Gonet Geneva Open

A reinforced partnership with Gonet & Cie SA

The partnership between the Gonet Geneva Open and the private bank Gonet & Cie SA is now a long-term one. Initiated in 2021, it has been extended until 2025, with an option for the 2026 and 2027 editions. Private bank Gonet & Cie SA thus remains the title sponsor of an ATP 250 tournament that has been organized since 2015 in the magnificent setting of the Parc des Eaux Vives and that has very quickly earned its letters of nobility.

Director of the Gonet Geneva Open, Thierry Grin says he is “extremely touched by the mark of confidence from Gonet bank.” “With such a committed title sponsor by our side, we are convinced that the Gonet Geneva Open will continue to grow and contribute to the influence of Geneva”, he continues.

For his part, Nicolas Gonet comments, “It is important for us to make a long-term commitment and thus contribute to the development and sustainability of a sporting event that has become a major event in French-speaking Switzerland. “

Since 2015, the Gonet Geneva Open has attracted renowned players, starting with Roger Federer, who played his last tournament in Switzerland in Geneva in 2021. Stan Wawrinka, for his part, won twice at the Parc des Eaux-Vives, in 2016 and 2017. The tournament’s past winners list also includes the names of Alexander Zverev, winner in 2019, and Casper Ruud, two-time defending champion. Daniil Medvedev, Dominic Thiem and Marin Cilic, three Grand Slam winners, have also played at the Gonet Geneva Open.

Casper Ruud for a three-peat

Casper Ruud will be aiming for an unprecedented hat-trick this year at the Gonet Geneva Open after his successes in 2021 and 2022. No. 3 in the world on January 1st, the Norwegian will be looking for his third crown at the Gonet Geneva Open, the eighth edition of which will take place from May 20 to 27 at the Parc des Eaux-Vives.

Undefeated in eight matches on the Geneva Tennis Club center court, Casper Ruud will be
presenting himself to the Geneva public as a two-time Grand Slam and Masters finalist. The year 2022 was indeed the year of almost all happiness for the 24-year-old player. We are naive enough to believe that his second victory at the Gonet Geneva Open, which came at the end of a closely fought final against the Portuguese Joao Sousa, was a real turning point. It allowed him to build up his confidence before heading to Paris. At Roland Garros, he reached the final with great authority before falling to Rafael Nadal.
Less than three months later, Casper Ruud demonstrated in New York that his performance in Paris was no fluke. He qualified for the final at Flushing Meadows where he was one tie-break away from becoming the world’s No. 1 player against Carlos Alcaraz. Casper Ruud was to conclude his year with a strong performance at the Masters in Turin, where he lost only in the final against Novak Djokovic.

In a recent interview with “L’Equipe Magazine”, Casper Ruud recalled that his victories in ATP 250 tournaments such as the Gonet Geneva Open have given him a confidence that he has been able to bring to life on the big occasions.
