Next week, the ATP will announce the official entry list for this tenth edition of the Gonet Geneva Open. The organizers will also benefit from three wild cards to further expand the field.

Following in the footsteps of Casper Ruud, another Grand Slam finalist will be playing at the Gonet Geneva Open at the Parc des Eaux-Vives from May 17 to 24. World No. 4 and last year’s US Open finalist, Taylor Fritz returns to Geneva for the third time.

Semi-finalist at the Gonet Geneva Open in 2023, the 27-year-old Californian is one of the most spectacular players on Tour. His attacking tennis, based on a powerful serve and forehand, has taken him to the very top. He has 8 titles to his name, including the Indian Wells Masters 1000 in 2022. In 2024, he also reached the final of the Turin Masters.

Over the years, Taylor Fritz has tamed the clay. Finalist last year in Munich, he has already reached the semi-finals of the Monte Carlo and Madrid Masters 1000 tournaments. In Geneva, he knows he’ll find ideal conditions to develop his game in the hope of becoming the second American to win at the Parc des Eaux-Vives 41 years after Aaron Krickstein.

Leo Borg will play in the qualifiers

The first wild card for the Gonet Geneva Open qualifying draw has been awarded to Leo Borg (ATP 488). The 21-year-old Swede is the son of Björn Borg, who won his 66th and final title of his illustrious career at the 1981 Martini Open in Geneva.

Leo Borg most often competes on the ITF Tour in the hope of picking up the points he needs to move up the rankings. At last year’s ATP 250 in Bastad, he had the good fortune to face Rafael Nadal. His father will certainly be tempted to return to the Parc des Eaux-Vives to cheer on his son 44 years after his final victory over Tomas Smid.

The organizers of the Gonet Geneva Open have a second wild card for this qualifying draw, which will feature sixteen players. It will be issued to a Swiss player. World junior No. 1 after his victory at the Australian Open, Henry Bernet appears well placed to be the beneficiary.

Following in the footsteps of three-time winner Casper Ruud, another top player has confirmed his participation at the tenth edition of the Gonet Geneva Open, which will take place from May 17 to 24. World No. 15 Grigor Dimitrov will be playing in the enchanting Parc des Eaux-Vives for the fourth time.

Finalist at the Gonet Geneva Open in 2023 against Nicolas Jarry, the former world no. 3 is one of the most popular players on the Tour. The purity of his backhand and the classicism of his game have always delighted the public. Grigor Dimitrov has also forged a special relationship with Geneva. In 2010, he won the Challenger organized by TC Drizia-Miremont at the age of 19 and ranked 285th in the world.

Since that first success, Grigor Dimitrov has built up an impressive record of 9 titles, including the 2017 Masters in London and the Cincinnati Masters 1000 the same year. He has also reached three Grand Slam semi-finals, at Wimbledon in 2014, at the Australian Open in 2017 and at the US Open in 2019.

Three-time winner of the Gonet Geneva Open, Casper Ruud will be back in Geneva for the tournament’s tenth anniversary. The Norwegian has confirmed his presence for the 2025 edition, which will take place from 17 to 24 May on the courts of the Tennis Club de Genève, in the enchanting Parc des Eaux-Vives.

A finalist at Roland Garros in 2022 and 2023 and in New York in 2022, Casper Ruud has really established himself over the last years as one of the top players on the ATP Tour. World No. 5 at the start of the year, he needed just one victory – the 2022 US Open final against Carlos Alcaraz – to become world No. 1. He has 12 titles to his name, the first was won in 2020 in Buenos Aires and the last in May 2024 in Geneva.

Winner in 2021, 2022 and 2024, Casper Ruud (26) has forged a special relationship with the Gonet Geneva Open. The Norwegian has shown unfailing determination on the Parc des Eaux-Vives centre court, which has enabled him to turn around some critical situations. In the 2022 final, Portugal’s Joao Sousa served out the match at 5-4 in the third set. Last year, he saved a match point in the semi-final against Italian’s Flavio Cobolli on Saturday morning before returning to the court in the afternoon to beat Czech Tomas Machac in the final.

Since 2015, the Gonet Geneva Open has attracted other great champions. Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Marin Cilic, Dominic Thiem, Daniil Medvedev and Stan Wawrinka – all Grand Slam winners – have played in this ATP 250 tournament, which has been a huge popular success in recent years. The 2024 edition was sold out, with 36,000 spectators in attendance.
