The Gonet Geneva Open will once again be one of the major spring events in Geneva. With the ATP 250 label, it can count each year on the presence of players of great renown, starting with its two-time title holder Casper Ruud. In 2022, the Norwegian played in the finals of the French Open against Rafael Nadal, the US Open against Carlos Alcaraz and the Turin Masters against Novak Djokovic after his second victory at the Parc des Eaux-Vives to finish the year ranked 3rd in the world.

Before him, other great players have played in Geneva, starting of course with Roger Federer in 2021. Stan Wawrinka won the tournament twice in 2016 and 2017. Three other Grand Slam winners have also played: Daniil Medvedev, Dominic Thiem and Marin Cilic. Alexander Zverev, Grigor Dimitrov, David Ferrer, Kevin Anderson, Kei Nishikori, John Isner, Fabio Fognini and Denis Shapovalov are also among the long list of top players who have already been to Geneva.

Daniil Medvedev will, of course, headline the tournament with a chance to play Richard Gasquet, whom the Geneva public will be able to see for the first time. The tournament could then offer us a quarter-final between the world number 2 and Dominic Thiem, the last two winners of the US Open.

Despite the absence of Stan Wawrinka due to an injury sustained in his  match against Novak Djokovic in Rome on Thursday night, there is one Swiss player in the main draw of the Gonet Geneva Open. Leandro Riedi, a finalist in the 2020 French Open junior draw ahead of Dominic Stricker, has received a wild card from the organisers. The 20-year-old from Zurich is the great hope of Swiss tennis, just like Dominic Stricker. He will open the tournament against a qualifier with the ambition of doing as well as the Bernese who reached the quarter-finals last year.

The first round will feature three great matches: Richard Gasquet and Australian John Milman, a player who always sells his skin very dearly, will be worth a visit, as will the duel between Fabio Fognini and Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis, who has returned to the forefront. Finally, Benoît Paire will meet Finnish Emil Ruusuvuori to challenge defending champion Casper Ruud in the round of 16.

The Gonet Geneva Open will start on Saturday at 11am with the first round of qualifying. Four Swiss players will be in the running, Henri Laaksonen, Johan Nikles, Jakub Paul and Damien Wenger.

The field for the 2022 edition of the Gonet Geneva Open, which will begin on May 14, is getting even bigger. The second wild-card has been awarded to Stan Wawrinka.

Winner in 2016 and 2017 at the Parc des Eaux-Vives, Wawrinka will be the third Grand Slam winner at this year’s Gonet Geneva Open, along with world No. 2 Daniil Medvedev and Austrian Dominic Thiem. The two finalists of the 2021 edition, the Norwegian Casper Ruud (ATP 7), defending champion, and the Canadian Denis Shapovalov (ATP 16) will also be present.

In Geneva, he will find a setting and an atmosphere that he greatly appreciates and where he has won two of the sixteen titles in his magnificent career. A career that includes winning three Grand Slam tournaments – Australian Open 2014, French Open 2015 and US Open 2016 – and a Davis Cup victory in 2014.

The first of the three wild cards for the Gonet Geneva Open has been awarded to Daniil Medvedev. The world No. 2 will make his return to Geneva after undergoing surgery last month to treat a hernia. The Gonet Geneva Open will take place from May 14 to 21 on the courts of the TC Genève at the Parc des Eaux-Vives.

A finalist this year at the Australian Open against Rafael Nadal in a match that will make history, the Russian became the 27th world No. 1 in history on February 22. Daniil Medvedev is 26 years old and has 13 titles to his credit. He has been a Grand Slam winner since his success last year at the US Open. Prior to his triumph in New York, he won the 2020 Masters in London.

With Daniil Medvedev, defending champion Casper Ruud (ATP 7) and 2021 finalist Denis Shapovalov (ATP 16), the Gonet Geneva Open will feature three of the most iconic players of the next generation. Dominic Thiem, another US Open winner, will also be present at the Parc des Eaux-Vives. In addition, the organizers hope to attract two other top players in the coming days
