Sixteen of the world’s top fifty players at the Gonet Geneva Open
Sixteen of the world’s top fifty players will be participating at the Gonet Geneva Open. The entry list published by the ATP gives even more substance to the tournament, which takes place from 17 to 24 May at the Parc des Eaux-Vives.
One former winner – Nicolas Jarry (ATP 57) – and two former runners-up – Tomas Machac (ATP 20) and Denis Shapovalov (ATP 30) – are among the twenty-one players admitted directly into the draw. The first top players have been announced in recent weeks. World No. 4 Taylor Fritz, three-time winner and defending champion Casper Ruud (ATP 15), Grigor Dimitrov (ATP 16) and recent ATP 500 Barcelona semi-finalist Karen Khachanov (ATP 25) have all confirmed their participation.
Two Masters 1000 winners, Alexei Popyrin (ATP 26) and Hubert Hurkacz (ATP 28), will also be competing. As will Italians Lorenzo Sonego (ATP 43) and Matteo Arnaldi (ATP 44), both of whom have real ambitions.
The organisers still have 3 wild cards to add players to the field. The staging of the Rome Masters 1000 could, as it did last year, provide them with a real opportunity to attract other top players. Finally, on the Swiss front, the Australian Open junior champion Henry Bernet is well placed to benefit from the second wild card for the qualifying draw, which is also shaping up to be very tight. The first was awarded to Leo Borg.
