Casper Ruud to defend his title

Three-time winner of the Gonet Geneva Open, Casper Ruud will be back in Geneva for the tournament’s tenth anniversary. The Norwegian has confirmed his presence for the 2025 edition, which will take place from 17 to 24 May on the courts of the Tennis Club de Genève, in the enchanting Parc des Eaux-Vives.

A finalist at Roland Garros in 2022 and 2023 and in New York in 2022, Casper Ruud has really established himself over the last years as one of the top players on the ATP Tour. World No. 5 at the start of the year, he needed just one victory – the 2022 US Open final against Carlos Alcaraz – to become world No. 1. He has 12 titles to his name, the first was won in 2020 in Buenos Aires and the last in May 2024 in Geneva.

Winner in 2021, 2022 and 2024, Casper Ruud (26) has forged a special relationship with the Gonet Geneva Open. The Norwegian has shown unfailing determination on the Parc des Eaux-Vives centre court, which has enabled him to turn around some critical situations. In the 2022 final, Portugal’s Joao Sousa served out the match at 5-4 in the third set. Last year, he saved a match point in the semi-final against Italian’s Flavio Cobolli on Saturday morning before returning to the court in the afternoon to beat Czech Tomas Machac in the final.

Since 2015, the Gonet Geneva Open has attracted other great champions. Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Marin Cilic, Dominic Thiem, Daniil Medvedev and Stan Wawrinka – all Grand Slam winners – have played in this ATP 250 tournament, which has been a huge popular success in recent years. The 2024 edition was sold out, with 36,000 spectators in attendance.
